Ghetto illustration

Project on Behance

My illustration represents life in ghetto during the Great Depression. Initial idea was to convey cold, depressive and melancholic mood. Secondary theme – lone existence in heavy populated urban areas. The music, art, and literature that emerged from the ghetto during that time reflected the struggles and resilience of its residents, and helped to shape the cultural landscape of America for generations to come.

Obvious real world references were New York and Chicago. Thoughtfully studied collection of photography, illustrations, paintings and advertising from that period of time helped recreate accurate depiction of architecture in details and harsh reality of streets.
