Illustrating Compassion with the University of Calgary
Assisted dying is complicated. Depicting it with respect and dignity was a challenge worth facing.
The University of Calgary approached Valérydesignwrks to illustrate a delicate topic: assisted dying.
This is something that people—including physicians—have powerful feelings about. Valéry’s job was to show a medical perspective to the process. In our culture, death is taboo. Talking about it is uncomfortable.
These illustrations walk a fine line. They show beauty and kindness in a complicated subject. Through butterflies flourishing in a garden, or a peaceful path ahead, Valéry’s work provided optimism and light.
For simplicity, the work shows the illustrations without text.
