Tōlu

A chocolate bar packaging exploration based in a low-budget, low-labor, family owned business out of North Sumatra, Indonesia. A laser/diecut for the front allows different colored wrapping paper to shine through and differentiate flavors, and using screen printing and only tones/tints of the same off-black allow for limited production costs.
This brand was inspired from the creation story of the Toba Batak people, who's divine trinity of gods is known as Tōlu.
The word Tōlu is written in Sumatrian and abstracted on the package. The die cuts on the front are inspired from traditional wooden carvings that are used to decorate houses and boats. The flavors are inspired by local ingredients, such as calamansi, torch ginger, and spices like cinnamon and cloves.
