Sumo Sushi

For this logo, I played around with concentric circles, trying to evoke the idea of a sumo wrestler with as little form as possible. The red circle is the symbol of the Japanese flag. The circle is the shape of a sushi roll, or the ramekin that holds your soy sauce. The figure is recursive, a tessellating fractal-like pattern where the body looks like a larger version of the head. What is eyes and a mouth on the head becomes arms and a belly button on the body. The overall result is a lighthearted tribute to Japanese culture and cuisine.
