Chicago postcard 💌
I’m the Design Lead CreativeMorning Chicago (which if you haven’t heard of, is a global monthly speaker series of creative types founded by Swiss Miss 😍 virtual now but can’t to go back in person!). On Friday we did an event celebrating love from all different cities in the Midwest, and I got to draw a postcard for Chicago 🤗
We found some inturderesting nuggets I never knew about The Windy City 😎💨
• The name Chicago was first recorded in 1688, where it appears as Chigagou, an Algonquian word meaning “onion field” 🧅🌾
• @artinstitutechi is the second largest art museum in America – just behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC 🦁🖼
• Route 66 starts at Grant Park
• The Corn Cob Towers (#marinacity) is featured on a Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album cover 🌽🌽
• Home of the unwritten rule of #ChicagoDibs—the practice of shoveling out a parking spot and then "saving" it with something like a lawn chair, laundry basket, or some other decorative piece of trash 🗑
• I can eat 312 Chicago dogs and pieces of deep dish pizza* 🌭🍕
I’ve called this place home for 10 years now 😱 Come visit when all of this—gestures broadly at everything—is over!** 💛
*No, I can’t
