Sumatran Tiger
A t-shirt design created for a client. The Sumatran tiger subspecies is critically endangered with around 400 remaining in the wild. They face extinction due to poaching and deforestation. Their habitats are destroyed to make way for palm oil production. This reduces their hunting grounds and causes an increase in human-tiger conflicts. With less habitat to hunt in they must prey on livestock kept by villagers leading to retaliation killings. A reduced breeding pool can also cause inbreeding and genetic problems. Although the Sumatran tiger is a protected species in Indonesia weak penalties and lack of law enforcement leave the species vulnerable to the illegal trade of parts, with their teeth, bones, claws, and more traded on the black market.
