One of the reasons I’m confident to proclaim myself as an integrative and multi-disciplinary designer is due to my work experience outside of the design field. As an aspiring academic, I took the opportunity to become a researcher at Center for Digital Society (CfDS) in Gadjah Mada University where I researched topics not only limited to design—other topics include social media, big data, digital politics and technology. Through this experience I was able to broaden my perspective both as a designer and an academic, as well as gather the public consensus on what design is and how it functions in our daily lives, and apply what I’ve learned to my practice. Although my predominant role at CfDS was a researcher, my other tasks include designing a variety of things including presentation slides, posters and booklets.
