FIRST FLIGHT

This work is a representation of the world of flight first took off through the lense of time and thoughtful ingenuity of Wilbur and Orville Wright. I live in Dayton, Ohio and personally know the Wright family and with these connections, I was able to obtain original, hi resolution imagery to create this artwork. Through technology, we inhale so much information, sometimes at a level that it becomes subconscious. With this piece, there are hundreds of interlaced images of the Wright's history and how flight expanded and influenced so many others. The individual squares are hand placed, some are askew, but it is also the transfer from clean, digital beginnings that the unique quality of assembly and the texture that is created with the paper, glue and medium brush over the panel and the bold, expressive oil stick strokes to provide a finished composition. It becomes energized and emotional. There are images, letters, words and textures within the composition that will provide the viewer an almost endless level of discovery in the composition, images or ideas that were not seen originally. And of course, I always include a small, subtle portrait image of myself.
