The benchmark FTSE 100 extended the losses in the early afternoon deals on Wednesday, 17 March, tracking the peer European stock indices and a flat Dow futures. A sharp drop in heavyweight shares of AstraZeneca Plc (LON: AZN), Rio Tinto (LON: RIO), Royal Dutch Shell Plc (LON: RDSA), BHP Group Plc (LON: BHP), Anglo American Plc (LON: AAL) contributed substantially to the fall in FTSE 100.
At around 1157 GMT, the FTSE 100 was trading at 6,764.80, down 0.57 per cent from the previous close of 6,803.61. During the session so far, the headline stock index has oscillated between a high and low of 6,805.73 and 6,763.44, respectively.

1. BT Group (LON: BT.A)
Shares of BT Group Plc, the London-headquartered telecommunications major, emerged as the top gainers among the 101-constituent pack of FTSE 100 on Wednesday. The stock of BT Group rose as much as 5.72 per cent to an intraday high of GBX 151.40 from the previous closing price of GBX 143.20.
2. Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc (LON: RR.)
Shares of Rolls-Royce, the London-based aerospace and defence equipment manufacturer, led the charge after BT Group as the stock was second-biggest gainer across FTSE 100 components on Wednesday. The stock of Rolls-Royce jumped 4.64 per cent to a day’s top of GBX 128.55 from the previous market price of GBX 122.85.
3. Relx Plc (LON: REL)
Shares of London-based analytics company Relx were third in the row of top gainers. The stock of Relx zoomed 2.81 per cent to a day’s peak of GBX 1,790 per share.
4. Standard Chartered Plc (LON: STAN)
Shares of Standard Chartered, the London-headquartered banking and financial services major, supported the key index to offset some of the losses. The stock gained 2.22 per cent to an intraday high of GBX 502.20.
5. Evraz Plc (LON: EVR)
Shares of London-based steelmaker and miner Evraz were the biggest laggards among the FTSE 100 constituents on Wednesday. The stock of Evraz slipped as much as 4.45 per cent to an intraday bottom of GBX 536.80 from the previous closing price of GBX 561.80.
6. Ocado Plc (LON: OCDO)
Shares of Hatfield-headquartered IT services firm Ocado stood as the second-biggest losers among the 101 stocks of FTSE 100 on Wednesday. The stock of Ocado slumped 3.56 per cent to an intraday low of GBX 2,111 from the last market price of GBX 2,189.
7. Anglo American Plc (LON: AAL)
Shares of Anglo American, the London-based precious metals miner, dropped more than 3 per cent in the afternoon trades to GBX 2,901 from the previous closing price of GBX 3,008. The stock continued to extend the losses after opening a little more than 1 per cent lower at GBX 2,977.
8. Rightmove Plc (LON: RMV)
Shares of Rightmove, the London-based online property portal, slipped nearly 3 per cent as the stock fell into the negative region after an hour of market opening. The stock of Rightmove made a day’s low at GBX 556, down 3.03 per cent from the previous close of GBX 573.40.
9. Lloyds Banking Group Plc (LON: LLOY)
Shares of Lloyds Banking Group, the London-headquartered banking and financial institution, remained most active among all the 101 components of FTSE 100. The stock of Lloyds commanded volumes with more than 53 million shares exchanging hands up until 1219 GMT, translating into a total traded turnover of £11.08 million.
10. Vodafone Group Plc (LON: VOD)
Shares of Vodafone Group, the Berkshire-headquartered telecommunications firm, emerged as the third-most active stock across FTSE 100 after Lloyds Banking Group and Rolls-Royce. The stock of Vodafone registered a volume of more than 28.84 million shares up until 1224 GMT, reflecting a traded turnover of over £29.47 million.
