Here is another website eco-built with my collective Kuroneko (kuroneko.io). Essential design + eco-developpement = Fast, small ecological imprint, loads fine on 3G.

CONTEXT
Digital technology represents 3.3 to 4.2% of global energy consumption (crude oil, crude coal, gas, water, before transformation).

In 2019, it emitted 2.8 to 4% of the world's total greenhouse gases, a figure higher than civil aviation. It consumed the equivalent of 0.2% of the world's fresh water, mainly during the phases of extraction of the minerals necessary for the construction of terminals.

There are approximately 34 billion electrical and electronic equipment and 3.9 billion internet users in the world today. The waste resulting from this set increases by 3.5 to 4% per year and is counted in megatonnes: 53.6 Mt, or the equivalent of more than five thousand Eiffel Towers per year. 53,6 Mt of waste of which 20% is tracked, but where 80% disappear in nature without knowing what it really become.

The global annual growth rate of digital technology is around 9% while its greenhouse gas emissions are increasing by 8% year after year.
The digital footprint is therefore changing very quickly and its impacts are also mechanically constantly increasing. The general consensus predicts a doubling of these figures by 2025.

OBJECTIVES OF ESSENTIAL DESIGN
Essential design is the name of my design process and how we work at Kuroneko. We aim to mutate internet and make it low tech and sustainable with:

Accessible
Access to content must be possible by all users, regardless of their access devices (Edge, 3G, etc) or their physical conditions.

Ethics and morals
The services and products deployed must respect the time, privacy and data of each user in order to combat the attention economy and all ecocidal digital logic.

Governance
We support direct democracy and localism in everything.

Essential
Each data and each content is essentialized to the maximum, in order to meet 80% of the uses with 20% of the resources.
