Car Dashboard & Controller prototype

This is a full scale prototype of an electric vehicle digital dashboard and controller, where I used ProtoPie to build the digital interface and the controlling unit.

The controller ProtoPie was installed on an iPad and the dashboard ProtoPie on a 65'' OLED TV screen. Rearview mirror (on a small tablet), side mirrors and windshield videos (projector) were synchronised on to simulate the feeling of driving while interacting with the controller unit.

Using ProtoPies ‘Send responses’ and 'Receive triggers’ you can pinch, slide tap etc. on the Controller to trigger zoom on map, adjust volume, browse playlists and more on the car-wide horizontal dashboard display.

Goal is to test and design a controller unit that is so intuitive to use, that while you focus on driving safely, you can easily control the cars digital interface and functions without having to look at the controller. Eyes on the road!

The ProtoPie prototypes were even installed in at BMW i3 on two tablets to test the controller and dashboard while driving in Copenhagen traffic.
