Logo design for LaserCut
LaserCut is a Canadian-based company primarily providing high-end alternatives to 3D printing. They specialize in abrasive machining using the latest in computer-controlled milling and multi-headed machines.
The company is proud to offer technology that can make incredibly accurate and precise cuts in virtually any material. They requested the logo to convey sharp edges, craftsmanship, and the idea of 3D printing or milling.
I used distorted rectangles to design an iconic mark depicting a twist drill bit, a tool used for cutting various materials. The top of the icon also represents "L" and "C" for the company name.
The negative space in the icon plays a crucial role in representing a laser beam that hits the lowercase letter "A" in its center. It conveys accuracy, symbolizes the company name, and adds a double meaning to the logo.
Finally, I chose two contrasting shades of blue to represent technology, competence, and quality. Plus, the lighter shade almost hints about aluminum.
