How to get rid of negative thoughts

We all have to deal with negative thoughts and negative people regularly in our life.

Negative thoughts are not only bad for your mood, but also for your health.

Negative feelings hurt friendships, relationships and make you feel bad from inside.

Negative thoughts often lead to anger and you might end up doing something that you have to regret later. Also, anger is bad for your health and may cause stress and headaches.

So even though we know that such negative thoughts and feelings aren’t good for us, then why do we still continue to to act and think negatively?

The reason is, in reality, it’s not easy to transform a negative thought into positive one. We are human beings with thoughts and emotions and it takes time to change our behavior and actions.

But with the right understanding this can be done. Forget about changing negative thoughts into positive ones. It’s hard to be positive-minded when you are burning with negative energy from inside.

What I feel works much better is to prevent this negative feelings altogether without letting them affect us in any way.

How can we do this?

To answer this question, let’s go a little deeper and analyze the root cause of negativity.

The root cause of all our negativity are those negative thoughts that we have in our mind. All those negative thoughts combine together and make us a negative-minded person who acts accordingly and causes harm to himself and others.

The truth is, each and every thought arises first in the mind. When any thought enters your mind, be it positive or negative, you have a choice.

A choice to recognize it or act thoughtlessly on it. You must always try to recognize if it’s a positive or negative thought, knowing that if it’s a negative thought it’s going to harm you.

After recognizing it, it’s not necessary to act on it. Ask yourself is it really worth your time and energy to think more about it? Or is it better to let it go and continue with what you were doing?

Once you recognize that a thought is negative, you can let it go. If it comes again, recognize it and let it go again. Never allow it to grow upon you. Never feed that thought by getting involved with it and spending your time thinking about it.

So the next time you start thinking negatively, stop right there. See what led you to thinking negatively. Each and every time the culprit is a single negative thought that keeps growing inside you, leading you to take wrong actions.

The key is to recognize that single negative thought, and then let it go.

Most of the time we are not aware that we have a choice, because we are used to acting on impulse rather than on careful observations.

For example, someone insults you and you immediately insult them back; someone blames you and you immediately start defending yourself; if a kid doesn’t listen to you, you immediately become angry and start scolding him.

It’s tough not to act on impulse as we don’t have time to think too much about trivial stuff.

But are they really trivial? Even when they affect your physical and mental well-being on a daily basis?

If you let those negative thoughts overcome you, your life would become miserable and very unsatisfactory.

The good news is with the right understanding you can recognize these negative thoughts and eliminate them permanently from your life.

It sounds so simple. Right?

Still most of us continue to act negatively, because we don’t filter thoughts as right and wrong, as negative and positive. If you could just filter them then you will see that you have complete power to get rid of them or to act on them.
