Coffee shop on the go

Late one evening in November I get an urgent text from a good friend. One of her friends was finally starting up a small coffee trailer business. She had nearly everything ready except for a logo and the requisite menus, signage and such. She needed marketing and advertising on a small scale in the next 12 hours for the printer.

First, I needed a logo. I asked the owner if she had any ideas for her logo that might help me along. She didn't have any ideas for me so I asked about her theme and any possible design elements she might be using. Beyond that, we also discussed where this dream of a coffee cart came from and her future plans for it. The theme for the cart was set to be a semi-generic Hawaiian feel, using grass skirts and these cute tiki carvings you see in this image. She snapped this quick photo for me and messaged it over.

I took this image into Adobe Illustrator and started to make a few different designs from it. In the end, I decided to go with the main face and to use the color palette. I had free reign to design however I saw fit. The completed logo was happily received by the owner. From there I designed a short menu and flyer that would be printed the following morning.
