rocketbike identity

A boutique digital agency out of Portsmouth Virginia, headed by Max, Casey and Michael. They operate a uniquely positioned agency centered around digital growth. I was tasked to rebrand the identity and help them create a brand language that reflected the rocketbike energy they bring to the table with their clients. This project was many months in the making with us having conference calls between Virginia where Max and Casey are, Florida where Michael was until recently and myself all the way over in Japan. As we got closer to the direction, Max and myself worked collaboratively on reaching a design solution for the symbol mark that could stand alone or with a strong clean modern type option.

The symbol, an astronaut on a bicycle gliding through space. The front wheel is raised slightly higher than the rear to signify a a positive feeling and progress. Many different identities were explored, but this direction made sense because the it reflects getting to space and being there. Many clients who work with agencies spend much time around the getting there and launching spending a ton of energy to get to the great beyond. rocketbike* uniquely positions themselves to say, “We do getting you to space, so you can experience it and do the next thing” That’s a powerful idea. And with that idea the rocketbike symbol was born. The symbol had to be modern and bold without excluding people because the main driver of rocketbike*, is they special focus on people. The wordmark is in FF Mark Pro Bold because it can stand alone when it has to, and works well and has much flexibility with the astronaut symbol mark.

While much energy was spent around the identity itself, the larger element of the visual language created was the multiple gradient mesh applied with image. An exceedingly lengthly amount of time was spent working on gradients, from reference as well as colour from rockets and rocket fuel. The outcome was a direction that I feel has a high amount of originality and utilizes gradients and image in a playful way yet can be euphoric, or edgy without losing overall consistency.

Stay tuned for more as it unveils. Go find @rocketbike & follow them! They are very kind people with a lot of energy and love. They have been very kind to me, and I am incredibly excited for what is to come!
