Warrior Sketch
Say what you will about professional wrestling. I've been a fan since I was little - creating my own matches with my action figures while I sat on the living room floor on Sunday mornings with WWF Superstars playing in the background. There were certain wrestlers, though, that, when they're entrance music hit, made me stop everything I was doing and watch. Everything they did was awesome. They were the same guys my friends and I would pretend to be when we wrestled on our trampolines. They became iconic. They became immortalized. Much like cartoon, literary and other characters, these wrestlers shaped our childhood.
You might think this is a silly thing to reminisce about - but when one of those guys dies, nostalgia kicks in. The Ultimate Warrior was one of those guys. Because of his intensity and larger-than-life persona and the way he was different than every other performer in the business, his story lines were exciting and enticing and kept your attention. I don't read much, but I love stories -- and I give a lot of credit for that to guys like the Ultimate Warrior who told stories that captivated me growing up. It's sad when characters like that are no longer around, but it makes me want to get even better at telling great stories.
Now, if you make fun of me, or pro wrestling, you WILL be Gorilla-Press-Slammed.
