Happy Republic Day - 26th January - India 2021

Historically, January 26 is also an important date in India's freedom struggle. It was on this day in the year 1930 that the Indian National Congress denounced colonial rule and welcomed the resolution of 'Purna Swaraj', or complete freedom. On this day, Jawahar Lal Nehru also hoisted the Indian flag on the banks of the river Raavi.

Thus, Republic Day celebrations are an example of all what our country's great leaders and freedom fighters fought for, and how we, as citizens must continue to respect and value them.

A day signifying national pride, patriotism and fervour, Republic Day celebrations are also synonymous with the famous Republic Day parade held at Rajpath, New Delhi.

The parades see tanks and tableaus by different paramilitary forces, states, depicting their culture and valour, defence systems showing off India's prowess, gallantry and bravery awards being presented to brave children, men and women who fought for the country and brought home glory.

The parade ends with beautiful air shows by the military forces and the national anthem. In different states across India, awards, ceremonies and celebrations are also organised.

Above all, it's a day when people of all faiths, cultures, communities and sections of the country come together to celebrate the rich history and culture of our country.

While this year's Republic Day celebrations will be quite different (no chief guest, motorcycle stunts and fewer crowds), the patriotic spirit must not dull down. Even though celebrations will be toned down and mostly done virtually, here are some lovely wishes, messages and greetings you can exchange with your loved ones to commemorate the special day.
