The White Stripes - Lettering Project
Throughout their entire discography, The White Stripes were always a brilliantly consistent band.
From their early beginnings they set their own limits and wrote rock songs that were obsessively stripped down to its three most basic elements: melody, rhythm and lyrics (or guitar, drums and voice), even though they were capable of doing much more.
And in terms of visuals, they always kept it as simple as black-red-white. From album covers to their own clothing: the number three, the colours and the "back to basics" mantra were all fundamental and strongly embraced by both Jack and Meg White.
In this project, I tried to capture that conceptual consistency from a lettering point of view. And I did so by keeping it simple yet intricate, just like their songwriting.
