Shortcuts.design V2 - Sneak Peek

For a long time, I haven’t had the time to work on http://Shortcuts.design. I learned how to code to be able to ship the first version in 2017, but the spaghetti code made it really hard to make updates, but hey, I’m working on a new version.

It became ProductHunt Product of the Day in 2017. A lot of people started using the site. After many requests, I built a search function and let people contribute to the data. The user-count grew and right now it has over 12k monthly visitors. I couldn’t have been more proud!

However, every update I built made the spaghetti code kept on growing worse until I eventually just stopped working on it — it wasn’t fun anymore and heck, I didn't know what I was doing 🙃

A lot of people love and often use the resource, which is so great! Therefore, I started working on the product again, trying to make it better for the people using it. I decided to rebuild the complete front-end because it just wasn't maintainable anymore.

Rebuilding everything is a lot of work. I don't know if it's worth it, but man it’s fun to see the code I wrote a few years ago and create a much better version now!! 🙌

Besides rebuilding the resource as it is (and giving it a much-needed paint job), I also started working on the most requested ‘feature’, darkmode 🖤🖤🖤
