Wakashio oil spill

This was a heartbreaking illustration I did to depict the lives threatened by the damage of the Wakashio oil spill, in Mauritius. It hurt Mauritius and will forever stain its future.
Words from me at the time of the event...
The beautiful island I have been living on for 6 years is now facing its most ecological disaster due to Wakashio, a ship that crashed on the reef. The ship is carrying 4000 tons of fuel oil and 200 tons of diesel, which is currently spewing out on to many southern lagoons.
This oil is going to dramatically effect...
▫️1.3 million people’s jobs that heavily rely on the tourism; already suffering from the effects of Covid-19
▫️Food security
▫️People’s health and livelihood
▫️The islands complex ecosystems and it’s huge biodiversity, including thousands of sea and land animals; some of which are already endangered or rare.
