Hibakusha
58th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale Venezia 2019.
Hibakusha is a mural handwriting project that won the award "Artefici del nostro tempo" by Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
The project consisted in the handwriting Hibakusha, which is the translitteration of the Japanese word survivors.
I created this piece as a tribute to Setsuko Thurlow and ICAN, invaluable activists for the abolishment of nuclear weapons worldwide.
Like the pitch that sticked on the bodies of the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaski, I traced dynamic strokes with black ink to engrave the memory of one of the most inhumane pieces of the history of the modern era.
By contrast, the curved and harmonious composition aimed at celebrating hope - an ode to the renaissance of humanity.
