Chameleon Design System - Brand
Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to introduce, build, and successfully integrate a design system at one of Belgium's largest media companies.
Before we actually started designing and building the system, we had to realize a business buy-in to start the project by giving numerous presentations to stakeholders to get them acquainted with design systems and convince them why they should invest in it at all.
After getting the final approval we started the project and established a dedicated product team that was going to be responsible for creating the design system. The team consisted out of a Product Owner, a Frontend Engineer, and a Designer/Developer (me).
๐ MEET CHAMELEON
Chameleon is a multibranded design system providing ready to use tools and components for building high-quality, consistent user experiences at Mediahuis.
Mediahuis, as the name suggests (in Dutch), is a collection of a multitude of (media) brands. Therefore it was very important that the design system had to support multi-branding out of the box. The adaptability is one of the greatest assets of the system and also the reason why we called it Chameleon. Every component automatically blends into the brand context in which it is being used.
๐ Now, one year later, the system is successfully integrated with different product/design teams. Providing them with a powerful toolbox that ensures an optimized workflow, consistency across the product portfolio, and reducing overall development time.
