Mapa figurativo de Minard

Charles Joseph Minard was a civil engineer for dams, canals and bridges who became Inspector General of the French Republic. He was born in Dijon in 1781 and was the creator of the most sophisticated infographics of the time.

The map is a 62 x 30 cm lithograph and reflects different variables of the terrible Russian campaign of the Napoleonic army of 1812-1813. It ingeniously combines the map of the military campaign with the visual representation of the number of men remaining in Napoleon's army.

What is remarkable about this map is that it makes it easy to compare the size of the army as it advances, the influence of temperature, distance, location and time. The quality of the information, curated by Minard to express his dissatisfaction with the war.

Already then combined the technique of lithography in progress, infographics were born. This is the first and the most representative.
The design of the postcards reveals a fine design with few decisions but thought for the reader. Do you like the choice of kraft paper?
Only black ink in the typography plus the sober color for the infographic.
