Outline Dancer

My inspiration has always come from Degas. Most importantly the sculpture of the little dancer Marie which he sculpted as he was going blind. I start by drawing detail and have previously enjoyed sketching and shading intricate drawings. As I became more experienced and inspired by modern art such as Matisse I realized what drew me to it was the accuracy at which they could use so few lines to create a bold impression. A good artist can make their work both strikingly abstract and uncompromisingly accurate. This dancer pictured started as a detailed drawing stripped down to the most important lines. Especially in muscles and hands so much can be shown through the careful placement of a simple line drawn accurately enough.
