Sahara Map Illustration, BBC World Histories Mag V
My map of Northern Africa & the Sahara for BBC World Histories Magazine – this time it was all about Scottish adventurer Alexander Gordon Laing and his quest to discover the mythical city of Timbuktu in Mali in 1825–26. His expedition set off in Tripoli/Lybia and crossed the entire Sahara through Algeria in a perilous journey, until he finally reached Timbuktu but got murdered by a treacherous sheik shortly afterwards. His story is pretty dramatic and I enjoyed choosing the colors for the map and illustrating the camel trains and oasis along the way!
