Rough & Ready, CA - Opening Title Card

Rough and Ready—a northern Californian gold-mining settlement reimagined as an old Western film. During its height, miners voted to succeed from the union (twice) at the height of the gold rush, only rejoining once the miners found out they would be unable to celebrate the 4th of July with the rest of the country.
