Inhala Exhala

Have you ever watched a TV show and thought, "Wow, that's me!"?

I grew up on tele novelas. That's mostly all we had on Slovak TV. Maybe that's why I'm so obsessed with Jane the V!rgin. It has everything I love in a show. It has drama, romance, humour, ridiculous cliffhangers and a female lead. But it also covers serious topics and has complex characters. Even though the show is both a parody of and simultaneously also a tele novela, it manages to strike a balance between the real and the ridiculous.

Jane is a notorious list maker, organisational freak and creative, who is often in the throws of anxiety. That's me!

The line "inhala, exhala" is one of the coping mechanisms Jane uses to calm herself down during anxious moments. I try to exercise mindfulness to cope with my anxiety and breathing is a huge part of the meditation portion of mindfulness. Maybe that's why I relate to the character so much.

It's really difficult to keep your anxiety at bay, when something scary happens. Meditation, deep breathing and most recently walks in nature and cycling have helped me calm down. This doesn't mean I don't get anxious any more. It just means I have something to hold onto. I have tried to feed all these thoughts and feelings into the animation. I hope it comes across and has a calming effect on you too.
