November 11 - Veterans Day

Thanks to all the Veterans out there. We really appreciate all that you have done to protect our freedom!!!

FUN FACTS ABOUT VETERANS DAY -

• SIGNIFICANT DATE - World War I officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, but fighting ended 7 months earlier thanks to an armistice (formal agreement). The armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For this reason, November 11, 1918, is recognized as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

• ORIGINALLY CALLED ARMISTICE DAY - President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as #ArmisticeDay. After World War II, President Dwight D. Eisenhower changed the name to #VeteransDay to honor American Veterans from all wars.

• ALMOST A 3-DAY WEEKEND - The Uniform Holiday Bill was signed in 1968 to make Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day that fall on Mondays. The first Veterans Day under this law was observed on October 25, 1971, but many states did not agree with this decision and continued to celebrate it on November 11. President Gerald R. Ford returned Veterans Day to it's original day of observation in 1978.
