Paramore's 2017 song "Fake Happy" meant a lot to me at a time when I felt like I was putting on a fake smile every time I had to interact with other people. I wanted to take that inversion of front-facing happiness which is seen in the song's accompanying music video and tie it with a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the 80s-esque album the song comes from.
