Environmentally-friendly Digital Receipt App

How can we save trees and increase the efficiency of organizing receipts?

The project is created to promote saving trees through the elimination of paper receipts. Each year, 10 million trees are used to print receipts in the United States alone, and 90% of the paper receipts end up in the trash bin. Especially in the grocery stores, we observed that people usually throw out their receipts right after the transaction. Some stores even offer a trash bin just for the receipts in the self check out the area. Additionally, paper receipts are easily lost and are difficult to be recycled. To promote saving trees and the efficient use of receipts, we came up with a two-part solution:

1. A system that allows customers to use our application to store receipts instead of printing out paper receipts
2. A mobile application that automatically tracks all transaction history (cash and credit card) without the need for paper receipt

Our project focuses on the second part of the solution, supposing that the system (first part) is already established.
