iOS in the car concept

‘iOS in the car’ hasn’t had much attention since it was announced. So far, Apple has shown iOS in the car as pushing maps, music, calling, and messaging onto the car’s hardware. There’s great potential for it to become a complete system to tie together all the individual tasks and record keeping for maintenance, repairs, fitness checks… although some infrastructure would be required to make it happen.

As a start, connecting to the on board computer when in the car for live condition monitoring (similar to what’s already done when you take your car in for a service) would be of a lot of benefit, especially for people like me who don’t really know cars and would welcome the help.

Automatic sells their piece of kit to do similar but it would be cool for this to be native - like an extension to existing bluetooth functionality - which possibly could lead to deeper integration (I could be completely wrong here).
