October 24 - United Nations Day

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations! The United Nations officially came into existence on October 24, 1945. Fun fact: Did you know that the name "United Nations" was coined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt?!? It was first used in the Declaration by United Nations on January 1, 1942, during Second World War.⁠

HOW TO CELEBRATE⁠ -⁠

• If you live in Europe, more than 250 iconic buildings from 150 cities and 21 countries, will be lit up blue tonight - the official colour of the United Nations!!! Post your pictures using hashtag #EuropeTurnsUNBlue .⁠

• Visit the UN's website to listen to British actor Sir Laurence Olivier read the Preamble to the Charter of the United Nations. https://www.un.org/en/observances/un-day⁠

• But most importantly, the UN's Secretary General is asking everywhere to join together. "The United Nations not only stands with you… The United Nations belongs to you and is you: We the Peoples."
