Narrowing my creative focus has been in the process for years! Here is a lil timeline of my story:
🥑 I first started off as a traditional graphic designer working for small restaurants in Chicago right after school.
👩🏻💻 In 2017 I moved to Austin, Texas where I made a career switch to become a visual designer in the UIUX realm for a large bank.
💕After a couple of years, I realized that my heart was where I started, in the graphic design and illustration realm. While both experiences were drastically different I was able to learn and discover the following in my journey:
🧠 Strategy is key! Thinking through the entirety of the creative process with research ALWAYS brings more value to the project I’m working on.
✏️Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries! It's never good to assume others will protect your best interests so you must always lay boundaries to keep yourself from burning out.
⭐️ Everyone is a different type of designer and we should embrace their unique abilities. No one type of creative work is “more important” than any other.
🙅🏻♀️Trying to force yourself into a certain creative career path solely because it will make you more money OR because it’s trending in the field can drain you if you just aren’t passionate about it. While sometimes we gotta take those jobs that give us the financial stability we need, it doesn’t mean we have to stay there and forget what we really enjoy pursuing! Do what you gotta do but keep on making the things that bring you joy!✨
