Akwa Ibom State Flag

Since its creation as a state in 1987, Akwa Ibom State, located at the southern most part of Nigeria, was without it's own official symbols - flag and emblem.

Official symbols are sacred and intend to unite people. They are designed to be inclusive and representative of all the people of the geographic location.

In 2019, there was an open contest for creatives from the state to send in entries. I had sent in my entry in faith and with deep passion to have the best symbols to represent us as a people and thankfully, my flag was chosen.

Design Interpretation:

1. The color Orange represents the vitality and vigour of Akwa Ibomites.
2. The color White represents peace and godliness.
3. The color Green represents fertile land and abundance.
4. The White arrowhead - the “charge” represents progress.
5. The '>' sign which is also a mathematical symbol for greater than, showcases the idea that as a state, together or as one, we are greater than our distinctive entities and we should embrace this as a strength and continue to move ahead progressively as one great people.
