Confucius is one of the greatest Chinese philosophers, educators, and cultural figures, known for his ideas and aphorisms.He is the founder of "Confucianism" and regarded as the "sage" by Chinese people. 2019, September 28 is his 2570th birthday and also a day to remember this Chinese sage. He was born in Qufu, east China's Shandong Province back in 551 B.C.He espoused lifelong learning "for the sake of the self," meaning self-knowledge, and self-improvement.Although Confucius' ideas and thoughts were not widely accepted in his day, over 2,000 years later,his thoughts and philosophy are still guiding millions of people in modern times.
Traces of Confucius Exhibition is on view at Asian Art Museun from September 28, 2019 until October 28, 2019.This exhibition takes the viewer to ancient China, where they will learn about the life of Chinese philosopher, educator and diplomat Confucius.
The exhibition presents unique insight into the life and work of both Confucius and Mencius.With a rare collection of images and cultural artifacts that illustrate the journey of these gures through their family life experiences, posts as government o cers and contributions to the education system.
Understanding a little of the great treasure of China, the Chinese language, opens up a deeper appreciation of the country.In continuous use for thousands of years, the language is a vast treasury of culture; Thus, the Chinese characters can be the representative for Chinese culture. All Chinese characters are built up from strokes. There are 32 types of strokes altogether, some of which are compound strokes made from basic strokes.The thought-provoking poster design series utilizes those 32strokes to illustrative conceptual ideas about combination of Chinese culture and Confucius.
