Aldi Recipes

I was 1 of 8 IXD students chosen to work on a sustainability project set by Kin + Carta Create, formally known as TAB. I teamed up with two animation students to create a new application for ALDI aimed to educate supermarket shoppers about food sustainability; and encourage those shoppers to make a meaningful change to improve their food sustainability.

This ALDI Recipes app provides ALDI customes user with recipies that are healthy, sustainable and cheap. Recipes are dived into a multitude of categories breaking them up into mannable chunks. he categories that are included within the homepage all promote the Aldi brand aims and/or sustainability. For example, Monthly Inspired Recipes would consist of in season goodness and recipes inspired by events within the month in question. It could also feature recipes that consist of ingredients that is on offer in Aldi supermarkets. Additionally, the category Love Food Hate waste, (inspired by the love food hate waste programme which is featured on the Aldi website), will feature recipes which consist of ingredients that the UK population tend to have in their cupboards helping to reduce food waste. Furthermore it would feature ideas on what you can do with leftovers.

Within the app, users are now only to find delicious recipes, they are also able to view ALDI product information. As ALDI does not provide a delivery service, grocery product information is sparse on the website. This is why it was important for us to provide this information within our the app.

To provide a personable experience we included a personal profile. Within this favourite recipe will be stored and recipes are suggested to the user based on personal preferences. These personal preferences are highlighted by the user during set up. They can change their preferences at any time within settings. Last but not least, users are able to gain quick, easy access to recipes they have recently viewed through profile.

To improve the ALDI shopping experience, which can be somewhat hectic if the shopper is unclear on what they need, we included a shopping list. The products within this shopping list are categorised simurar to how you would find them in store. product infromation can be accessed through the shopping list and product images provide a visual aid to help users find the products when in store helping to speed up the process of shopping in Aldi.
