Urban Confluence:Silicon Valley Landmark Design
Our competition entry entitled “ The Coupling” has made a place among the top 50 project proposals in the international competition “ Urban Confluence: Silicon Valley” Landmark design competition.
Though we didn’t make it as the top 3 finalists for the phase II of the competition, it still is a great achievement for our team to make it in the shortlist of CCP (Community Competition Panel). The competition was huge, as more than a thousand ( 963 among which were qualified) architectural teams from 72 countries & 6 continents took part in this competition. The competition was about designing an iconic landmark like the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty, in the heart of Silicon Valley, where the greatest technological revolution has been taking place since the 19th century. The topic & the site was itself the most attracting one for any designers all over the world. And it is only logical to think that the world’s topmost architectural firms also competed in this huge competition. Aside from our submission, every other submission was no less than interesting & appreciable. That is why we are even more excited to be at the top list of this large participator’s group.
It all started during the crucial time of the pandemic lockdown when we found out about this design competition. We decided instantly to utilize the lockdown time & give our best by forming a team. Then under the supervision of Architect Md. Abdullah Al Masum, we formed a team of total 8, which comprised of architects of RE Form International Limited, 5 architectural students of CUET & 1 from SUST. The work was never easy because each of us had long-distance among ourselves. The only possible solution to do the works was via zoom meetings. We discussed through numerous meetings & everyone had a major contribution in the work process. Such perfect teamwork was not expected at first, but in the end, we all made it to the submission! And obviously, the result was worth every effort!
