Bedivere returns Excalibur

As autumn is here and I’m back in Somerset, for some reason I felt inspired by the Arthurian legends. Probably because Somerset is pretty much the home of the King Arthur legend along with Cornwall. I live not far from from Cadbury Castle, the supposed home of Camelot and a 20-minute drive away is Glastonbury Tor, where King Arthur supposedly was carried away to Avalon after his final battle.

I decided to illustrate the scene after the battle where Sir Bedivere is asked by a gravely wounded Arthur to throw Excalibur into the lake. As Sir Bedivere does so, an arm clad in white samite rises from the waters and catches the sword and takes it under the water’s surface.
