The Lie of the Land book cover

I was commissioned to create a cover for the Kindle Edition of a novel by Man Booker long-listed author Sam North. The novel is about harsh, rural life on Dartmoor; longing, and reckoning with one's past. My inspiration for the cover was to depict a ghostly apparition of a deserted house in the middle of the moor landscape, to represent memory of a life lost to time.

The cover was mostly rendered digitally, with some of the texture from the sky created using black ink on paper and scanned into photoshop. The lettering was created digitally by hand, in Procreate.
