Motion Monday's - Tree
September's Motion Mondays challenge, as part of the Motion Designers Europe community was:
Tree
Use these colors: #983352 #AA5F39 #68266F
Maximium length: 8 Seconds
Make it loop!
You can choose your favorite tool: 3D, 2D, stopmotion, handdrawn…etc. however you want.
What I like about this challenge is that it gets my creative juices flowing. I have very clear guidelines, so it's not a flurry of ideas with no way to pick a route. I have chosen to use stock illustration from unDraw, a free SVG illustratrions website, instead of illustrating my own. I am primarily an animator and I wanted to dive into what I do best.
I did learn, that you get what you pay for with stock/free assets. unDraw is undoubtly a great resource for anyone who is in need of quick and beautiful vector assets. The assets are not animation ready and I had to make lots of adjustements. This is not a criticism of unDraw, since animation use is not their purpose. It is just something to keep in mind for animators wanting to use any free illustrations.
I have also played around with sound effects to create a visual narrative. Instead of animating the wind that blows the leaves away, I have used sound effects to tell that story. I had a lot of fun playing with Boombox, an After Effects plugin for sound effects.
If you would like to take part in this challenge, feel free to create your own animation following the guidelines above and posting it using the hashtag #MDEUmotionMondays and/or #MotionMondays.
If you would like to be part of the community and join the Slack channel (provided you are a student or professional in the Motion Design industry and located in Europe), send me a DM and I'll invite you!
