Katana, first edition—Packaging
Cards are your weapon in this innovative historical action game set in medieval Japan. Both game design and art direction are based on extensive historical research.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2019, Katana was packaged for retail distribution in 2020. This meant designing packaging for retail display, while being mindful of size and weight to keep distribution costs and the final consumer price low.
The solution is a double tuck box maximizing space on the front of the box when displayed on a shelf. Clean layout focuses on the ink illustrations and red branding to entice hands to pick up the box.
