Mayan Study
I went to the Museum of Natural History this past weekend-- the first real "place" I've gone since quarantine!
There's a large exhibit of Mesoamerican art there that just blows my mind-- the Mayans have been NAILING design for thousands of years: their work is so graphic and powerful and pioneered concepts of design that other cultures didn't catch up to for millennia!
This is a master study, an attempt to learn from the shapes, patterns, and proportions that stood out to me as exceptional in the original.
It's based on a religious urn that I irresponsibly forgot to write down the details of, but with further research I think it may have been a depiction of the god K'inich Ajaw, the Mayan sun god.
