Onboarding redesign – First Republic Bank app

The First Republic Bank app needed a better onboarding experience. The goal: get users to complete setup actions, which creates a more optimal experience and increases retention.

One action – "Enable Face ID" – was deemed more important than the rest. For this action, I used an interruptive screen similar to the iPhone setup flow. To avoid a long setup flow, I used just one interruptive screen, dropping users quickly into the app.

The rest of the onboarding actions sit behind a "complete setup" message. The incomplete progress bar leverages the Zeigarnik effect (users want to finish incomplete tasks), nudging users to complete additional setup actions.

Tools: Sketch to Principle.
