Heroku Hanafuda Cards

One of our team members at Heroku introduced us to Hanafuda, or “flower cards”, an iconic and unique Japanese card game made up of twelve suits that represent the months of the year—each with a designated flower. We set to work bringing them to life in the Heroku style, playing with iconography and colour, experimenting with visual styles, and liaising with the team in Japan to ensure we were being respectful of the cards and their storied history.

We took tremendous care in every detail, to ensure that we remained true to the culture and heritage of the cards, while creating a deck that we could be proud of.
