02 | ROSALÍA — El Mal Querer

Omgggg. Where do I begin with this one… I think I could start by saying that this album and the first place are actually at the same level lol, and that this is the other number 1 and I put it here only because I didn’t know how to prioritize them —but yeah, fuck metrics tho—, or I could start by describing this album as the purest state of art, or saying that ROSALÍA is a genius and that discovering her music was like a bucket of cold water when I realized that there are Spanish-speaking records that are worth everything, but no, this album is inexplicable, and I can’t find many words to describe it. And it’s cuz I love everything behind the production: the empowerment and the personal confidence that ROSALÍA transmits, the creativity behind the art direction, the lyric composition, the history, the visuals, the live performances, the ideas and passion poured into each of the tracks that narrate a story, the general concept, the implementation and combination of different non-conventional genres such as flamenco and urban music, and a lot of other things. El Mal Querer has it all. Lyrically every song is a poem, and the passion with which ROSALÍA has worked on this album is simply inspiring and fascinating. ROSALÍA came to show that a Spanish-speaking woman and with a career that is relatively starting and for which she has put SO MUCH effort, has absolutely all the ability to achieve whatever she pleases and maintain a position of humility despite of it. She fucking SNATCHED the hell outta 2018.
