Sign Up - Tips & Tricks

At Stepwise, we make a lot of applications and therefore we also make a lot of log in / sign up screens.

Last time, we shared with you some tips & tricks for login screens. Today we would like to share with you some tips & tricks for sign up screens:

1. People don’t like to sign up to anything, that’s why it’s important to communicate the value of signing up. This can be done by using a short and clear message like you see on our design.

2. Allow social registrations, this will help the user not think of a new password.

3. If you have many input fields, split them into multiple steps. This will prevent the user feeling overwhelmed by the quantity of input fields to fill in.

4. Keep users in the flow by having a single column to avoid reorientation.

5. Avoid using placeholders to make it compact, It works only for short forms, but not for longer forms. When the user enters information into the field, the placeholder disappears and the user may not be able to check if they enter the right type of data. Placeholders should have meaningful content such as the format of input or description of input.

6. Complex passwords are hard to crack. Therefore, show the password strength to enable the user to know the complexity of the entered password and change the password accordingly if necessary.
