Photo Collage

The main goal is to present an idea, a message though photo-illustration.
The concept chosen for this collage work is “Earth Mother: we seem to be losing our connection with the earth, because of our lack of appreciation for the planet that sustains us. It is vital that we establish this connection once again, and as a species respect the earth as the source of all life.”
This collage is telling a story of a mankind going through the process of understanding and process of reconnecting with a nature with the universe with his own self, considering that humankind is nature itself.
The main object of the design is a portrait of a man who is representing all the humankind. The men’s head is divided into the layers. Each layer is a step, a phase of the reconnecting journey. All the action is happening within the men’s head because this is a thought process. Collage is utilizing a lot of different images, bringing them together into the stages. There is a lot of small details that make a viewer look closer. When attention is being drawn, a viewer is placing himself into the artwork, experiencing the concept and emotions, feeling within the collage.
The main techniques used are selections copy-place, masking, color balance, curve, brushwork for shadows and a bit of a bright highlight to give a feeling of depths between the layers.
The lower part is showing the life off pretty much all the people, people living in the big busy cities, with a routine of current life, with worries of surviving, making money, making politics, developing technologies with no consideration of nature, a planet an inner connection, inner peace.
The second layer is the beginning of the journey. The images show people traveling through the dry lonely dessert. People are usually finding them self lost and confused before the realization happens.
The third layer is representing a human who found the connection, human who was able to touch the peace inside of him, touch the nature within. A human who is inspired by this understanding, who is eager to develop. The images used for this part are the images of green woods, a little road laying on top of the hill. And the boy running towards something, something that viewer cannot see, but only imagine. And it is not a coincidence that the person is being represented as a child. A person is being reborn, being connected with an inner child. Kids are pure, kids didn’t yet get affected by the rules and norms of the society around. Kids are sensitive to the surroundings, they feel the energy better, their minds are not polluted with everyday worries. The person is happy, inspired, running fast.
The upper layer is a representation of a connection. It uses images of a space, starts, night sky, mountains, and an adult person figure. A person is standing straight, looking into the far
ahead. This image gives a feeling of peace, relaxation, and calm. The final stage of a human kind journey.
It all being closed within the head. It is all happening within the human mind. A beautiful story of realization. A beautiful journey of discovering a person’s own self. People are living on the planet Earth, people are the same nature as the nature around them. Therefore the planet is a part of a human. Therefore the realization of a missing connection and pursuing of it is reconnecting with our own self.
