Magnesium 12
Magnesium is an alkaline earth metal, which is gray-white and lightweight. It is the ninth most common element in the universe and the fourth most common on Earth, making up 13% of the planet’s mass. Magnesium is vital for almost all living organisms, and is also important in photosynthesis. It is highly flammable when in the form of a ribbon or powder, but is very difficult to ignite as a more solid mass.
