Design a logo. Will it be animated? In what capacity will it be used? Branding is generally a serious matter for most companies and the considerations for size, placement, color, etc. should be thought out carefully.
The Idea 💡
The idea for todays UI design is a logo design for my game guild's Discord server, called Nocturnis. The guild is called Nocturnis because most members of it play during the times of 00:00 to 04:00 GMT or simply during the night; that's what makes up the guild and why it was created in the first place, a community for nocturnal players. Saying that, the logo design will include an illustration related to nocturnal/darkness/night-time, while incorporating the name of the guild in some unique and wonderful way. The colour palette will be predominantly Black (for obvious reasons), with a White accent.
Final Thoughts 🧠
I think I've nailed the logo! I'm so glad that I went with a wolf to base my illustration off of, it's an animal that not only is nocturnal, but it's a very well-known and popular one, too; it's logical and all members will perceive it.
The logo itself is made of a wolf head illustration and the letter "N". On first inspection you may just think it's an illustrated wolf head (you wouldn't be wrong), but on second inspection you might notice the actual first letter of the guild name; Nocturnis/N. The head creates the outlines for the letter that is secluded within it.
Once I finished the initial wolf illustration, I experimented with the guild name, placing the entire name around different parts of the wolf, even trying to fit the entire name in the head. That's when the 'secluded N' hit me, I didn't need to fit every letter into the logo, I could just fit the first and most prominent one in, instead; so that's what I did. Finally, all that was needed was a some touch ups to the entire design and while I was it, I decided to create an alternative colour edition [RIGHT], which basically just inverted the colours from the original [LEFT].
Overall, I've had a wonderful time designing my guild's logo. I did it in secrecy, without any of the other guild's admins knowledge. I showed them it when I finished designing and they were blown away, everyone (including the other 250+ members) loved it and it [LEFT] is now our official Guild/Discord server logo; I couldn't be happier with the result.
