"War Plan UK" book cover

Self initiated project to design a cover for the book "WarPlan UK: The Secret Truth About Britain's Civil Defence" by Duncan Campbell (Paladin, 1983).

A study into how the British plans for civil defence in the event of a nuclear war were more about protecting Government than the people, this book originally had a very plain typographic cover, with the title set in caps.

I decided, in a tribute to the infamous UK 'how-to-survive a nuclear attack' leaflet "Protect and Survive", to repurpose some of the original drawings in that to create the cover.

The images were redrawn for increased fidelity, and white colour blocks added along with some slightly offset halftones of varying courseness in Adobe Illustrator.

The main title was composed from inked letterpress type blocks I had.

The body text is BritishRail Normal font, and the spine uses Coluna Condensed bold.

The final layout was arranged in Adobe InDesign.
